I have known Shaun for a good
number of years now; we met at Beacon Hill Gym when he first
started to build his business. I used to wind him up about
the miserable performances of Sunderland Football Club, an
enjoyable past time which over the years has given me hours
of harmless fun. For a while I
thought I could manage my own fitness regime, but having sustained
a series of calf injuries, with my weight pushing 15 stone
and my motivation failing, I eventually succumbed to his blandishments
and started training with him.
Shaun is a very good trainer; he seems to
know how hard to push you and will always push you a little
harder than you would push yourself. He can tell when you
don’t have much in the tank and adjusts the session
accordingly, but you won’t get away without trying,
and he varies each session to keep them stimulating and testing.
I might be knackered when I leave but I always feel better!
Now all my family have benefited from Shaun’s expertise
in one way or another; Pam who is actually a pretty classy
runner has benefited from work on her upper body and core
strength, Rachel started training to make sure she would look
good on her wedding day and succeeded so well that she still
goes every week. Charlotte has only been a couple of times
but she has started running, lost two stone in weight and
it’s just a question of time before she decides to take
the next step.
I may not look like a great advertisement for Shaun’s
expertise; I still carry a bit of condition, but I am strong
and fit and can still run ten or twelve miles in the hills
without too much trouble, with enough in the tank at the end
to out sprint my fellow runners all of whom are younger than
me.
However, this is more by way of a congratulation,
than a thank you.
It’s great that the new gym is going so well, Shaun
has worked his **** off to get this far; it’s an excellent
set up and knowing Shaun, it will only get better over the
years.
Well done mate!
